Sansivieria Cylindrica – Rhizome

sansivieria rhizome

Q: What the heck is this growing out of my sansevieria. I know it isn’t a bloom or a leaf, but I am very perplexed.

A: It’s a rhizome: a thick root that grows away from the original clump. Eventually it will sprout new leaves.

If you let it grow an inch or two more, you can clip it off near its base and place it half-submerged lengthwise in damp potting soil. Put it in a warm window and keep the soil moist. It will sprout new leaves and roots in a month.
