Notes:

Zone 7b, growing behind a 24 year old, loropetalum. It's right up against my brick foundation, Very inhospitable environment. Very little water, almost hardpan soil, full sun. I did not plant it. Tried several plant ID apps. keep giving me many acer types. Closest I found using google was Acer davidii, George Forest, looked at sooo many pics.

I’m still leaning toward Malus. To my eyes Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius) leaf surface has coarser appearance than those in the photos. Does the branch /twig in the first photo belong to the plant? Can you show us side view of the whole plant & closeup of the main trunk?
But not having the plant in person and no flowers & fruits to tell more , I still could be wrong about my speculation of Malus genus. Best wishes sunnysue2009!

A FB friend seemed sure that it was a native Ninebark. What do you think?

The leaves appear to be alternated, this rules out Acer (maple). I’m not certain what kind of seedling yours is and wondering if it maybe something in the Malus (apple/crabapple) perhaps? please post again when this grows more mature. For now check out leaves images of a Malus cultivar from the included link below. Again I’m only speculating. Best wishes!
