Notes:
As you can see I’m a jeweler who uses nature as inspiration. However, I like to accurate label my creations based on their plant matter, but I. This case I have no clue. I randomly find one or two of these on my driveway, but don’t know if they fall from a tree or blow off some other shrub or plant.

You are right about those trees are too tender for your state. Perhaps you could get in touch with Conifer Society and Arbor Society to help with your mystery ‘cone’. Please share it’s ID whenever you have it.

Thanks Laura, I wish either were correct, but neither are indigenous to my part of the world, so I’m still searching for an answer.

I meant to type:”stem with leaves” not “branch with leaves”.

This looks like a dead branch with leaves from either Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla)or Cook Pine (Araucaria columnaris). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araucaria_heterophylla http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araucaria_columnaris
