Notes:

This location is in Houston County, AL. We are in the extreme southeast corner of Alabama. The plant is blooming now (May 12) and is found in a shaded, forested part of the trail, near ground level. Leaves are definitely compound with 3 leaflets. There is a lot of poison ivy in the same area.

That’s it! Thank you so much for the identification. This one was giving me a lot of trouble.

Maybe a species in the Erythrina? Possible the Cherokee bean (E. herbacea)? Check it out and see if you have a match. Best wishes! http://sfrc.ufl.edu/extension/4h/plants/Coralbean/index.html
