Looks like a chestnut but outer green pod is smooth, Three nuts to a pod. Are they edible?

Buckeye I wouldn’t eat them. The Native Americans used to fish with them, by casting the powdered nuts on the water… Made the fish easy to collect. The Confederate drs. Are said to have used them in surgery, as an opium substitute, during the blockade… They switched back to opium when the blockade was lifted…
