These bugs are destroying my spinach leaves. They seems to be active in the night. As soon as you touch the plant they will fall to ground. Insecticidal soap has no effect on them. Savin powder kills them. But, then we can’t eat the spinach. Need help in identification of this bug and its control.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may try diatomaceous earth. But let me clarify few things. The bugs are not as large as they look. the largest one is probably one fourth the size. My camera automatically magnifies it. I am sure it is not a wireworm or cutworm. I doubt it is a caterpillar either since they don’t morph into fly.

There are a number of caterpillars that will eat spinach, as well as wireworms and cutworms. You might try diatomaceous earth and see if it helps. Otherwise I’d look for some (supposedly) safe pesticide that doesn’t harm humans, though I have my doubts about most of those…
