This very long plant that can span up to two or three feet is coming up in an area where I spread hummingbird and butterfly seed about two years ago. I don’t remember if it ever produced a flower last year, because I pulled it up early August assuming it was ragweed. It has alternative leaf arrangement and three long lobed leaves in a set of three at the end of a stem. Multiple stalks can grow. I’m leaning toward a weed but want to make sure. Thanks!

Not a weed… Lespedeza Lespedezas are butterfly magnets, feed the birds, add nitrogen to the soil… good plants to encourage! I have a pic of lespedeza, and a pic of ragweed on this post from last August: http://gardens-in-the-sand.blogspot.com/2013/08/ragweed-daze.html plus some other wild flowers…
