Q: I have always called this vine a Guardian Angel but I can’t find anything listed as that. It has yellow flowers in the spring.
A: Some people call it yellow archangel but my name for it is Garden Devil. The scientific name is Lamiastrum galeobdolon. It has suffocated more ferns and hosta than I can remember and I pluck it out whenever I see the variegated leaves.
I very much liked the plant at one time but regretted planting it when I realized what thug it can be. I suppose it could be safely planted under large azaleas because it seems to tolerate great amounts of shade. Just do some thinking beforehand if you keep it in your garden.
