Notes:
This tree grows to about 20 ft and has oval shaped fruits. The fruit is bitter to taste but has certain something to it. I have only tried the raw ones and not ripe. Please help me identify it. Thank you in advance for any help. Once again, this is a great service you are doing.

No, not a genius, just a lots of dumb luck. Thanks for sharing about the use of this tree. This garden site is wonderful place for learning about plants from people who love to gardening. Thanks to your “field trips” we get to know about what plants grow in India.

Laura, you are a genius. Thank you very much. Now to think of it, I have taken this as a medicine many times, but in dried and crushed form. Never have seen until now in a natural setting. This is a staple ingredient of many Ayurvedic concoctions. It is called Kadukkai in Tamil and Malayalam. Interestingly, this is prescribed to those who observe celibacy in certain religious orders.
