Woody trunk seems hardy since we moved it and it lived.

Not a typical looking specimen, but it could be a paulownia. If it is, don’t transplant it – destroy it. Paulownia is an aggressive invasive – so much so the battle may already be lost. A tree that, when it matures, produces pretty blossoms, but goes downhill from there, with brown pods that produce floating seeds and hang on the tree all late summer to winter.

looks to be some sort of hibiscus, or Confederate Rose. Huge blooms that only last a day, but prolific blooming. Mine die down in the winter and put back up, they don’t like cold weather. Confederate Rose gets very tall, hibiscus not so much, but still probably head high.
