Notes:
Seeing is 2 feet tall. Volunteer tree – we think some kind of pine. Need to know how big it will grow, and how fast, because we are thinking it could shade a nearby rhododendron. But we fear it will grow slowly and not stop until it’s way too big for the yard. Would like the correct name if we offer it online.

I can’t see clearly to tell. If its trunk is woody then it probably is a type of pine as you said. But it would be hard to narrow down its species with out the cones and the number of needles per bundle (fascicle). According to source some of the pine species grown in your area: Ponderosa (Pinus ponderosa) and Monterey (Pinus radiata). Link below can help in identify species of Ca including the two above.
