Vegetable Garden – ‘Sterilizing’ soil

Q: My father has two vegetable gardens (totalling 800 sq ft) that he wants to “sterilize” dirt. He is concerned that due to size “rotation” of crops are not very effective. He is looking for dazomet(?) or basamid (?). He is unable to locate locally. Do you have any recommendations?

A: I don’t think he needs to worry unless he has nematodes on his okra or bacterial wilt on his tomatoes. I don’t believe you’ll be able to buy Dazomet – I believe you have to have a Pesticide license.
