Notes:
This is in an Atlanta park. It’s suppose to be a native plant, but looks a lot like Cleyera. I’ve tried to key it and it’s a little like Kalmia, Illicium and Viburnum obovatum, but not quite right for any. BTW, no scent to leaves or stems.

It does look like Cleyera. If it’s a stiff, upright shrub with little in the way of flowers, I’d bet on that…Its not Illicium from looking at photo (and all Illiciums have scent to leaves)..too leathery for V obovatum, Kalmia has darker leaves.
