I have a LARGE Sago Palm near the front of the house. This year it produced a faciated frond (about 12-13″). I was told by a local nursery that the faciated frond will kill the Sago. Why is it that the faciated frond will kill the Palm or if the frond is cut off will it possibly save the palm.

We grew up calling these pigs. They have flowers at the base of the stem that resemble a pig snout. I’ve heard they are a type of wild ginger but I’m not 100% sure. I have transplanted them in a pot in my flower garden and they make a beautiful addition to my garden and come back every year.

Maybe a type of Asarum? Flowers are needed for confirmation of this suggested genus. For now check out one species, A. minus from the included link below. When it blooms and you still don’t know, please resubmit with photo of flowers. Best wishes!
