We came back from a week’s vacation a couple weeks ago to find these growing in our front flower bed. They’re very fast growing with large leaves – longer than my hand – and a white carrot-like root. I did a search online and they seem similar to the American Pokeweed, but not quite. The stems aren’t showing any red like some sites describe, so I’m not sure. I’m in the woods near the top of a rocky hill, not far from Table Rock Lake.

Thank you for your help. I guess I jumped the gun. I noticed yesterday it is starting to show some pink in the stem.

I would say that it is a “PokeBerry” or Pokeweed but give it some time , as it gets older perhaps the stem will turn reddish. Now it is going through a very rapid growth stage.
