As bad as the “sooty blotch” is on the exterior of the fruit I cannot believe the inside wasn’t wormy with the coddling moth larva. Perhaps you have found a worm proof quince! Although I have grown quince I just learned that some varities have a mottled bark and elongated fruit. Thanks.
