Notes:

I first noticed these grass “balls” around my neighborhood 2 months ago about 2′ round, but then they didn’t have the wheat-like brown stalks which appeared a few weeks ago on this 4′ ball of my neighbors. I believe I’ve seen some elsewhere this week that did not have the stalks. Would they be two different types of grass? If so, I’m interested in the one without the stalks. They remind me of the hair on Dr. Seuss characters.

    The picture looks like Miscanthus sinensis (Maiden Grass) but without a picture of the other type, preferably with a close-up of the leaves, can’t really hazard a guess.
