Notes:
This is a volunteer tree growing underneath my hosebib. It it completely in shade. I want to replant but need to find out what type of tree it is before I do so so that I can put it in the correct place. There is actually another one next to it (although not shown) that is only about 4″ tall. This one shown is about 14″ tall. Thank you so much for your help!

It looks like a native – eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginia) . The young needles are very sharp and prickly. A great tree, but you would probably want to transplant it to a larger space. http://dendro.cnre.vt.edu/dendrology/syllabus/factsheet.cfm?ID=97

I’ve always thought those were cedars but there are quite a few kinds and I’m not sure which one that is specifically.
