Notes:

a couple of these sprouted up this year in my very shady back yard. Ferns grown well here – wasn’t sure if it was a type of wild fern or a strange weed. The larger of the two was chopped down by my hubby – it was about 36″ tall, and looked like it was wanting to flower. Just curious if I should keep it or pull it up.

Maybe a species of black snakeroot (Sanicula), possible Canadian black snakefroot (S. canadensis). Check it out and see if you have a match. Best wishes! http://www.missouriplants.com/Greenalt/Sanicula_canadensis_page.html
