I have had a pencil cactus TREE for over 45 years. It grows indoors and outdoors. The fluid inside each branch is like white sticky paste (not good if you have cats). When grown inside it is straight up with a thin trunk. I took a piece of lower branch and just stuck it into the Louisiana ground. Within 2 years I had a 2 story “Pencil Cactus” tree with a thick trunk. Now I live in Georgia. I planted (form the first tree) a piece in a pot. It is now 5 ft. A friend saw many of these on a trip to Africa. I was told the name was PENCIL CACTUS….still not positive.
