Notes:

This is a medium sized shrub (small tree?) that is growing in my yard. It seems to grow quite large in sunny areas (2+ meters tall) but is quite stunted when not exposed to full sun. Small whiteish flowers are starting to emerge on the more mature ones. The leaves look green in the photo, but some have a rust-like hue on them.

link to sadler oak. Again, I’m only speculating for now. If this of the genus, perhaps you could try the ‘International Oak Society’ for a confirmed species https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/quercus-sadleriana

Unfortunately the direct sunlight made it hard to see details of “Small whiteish flowers”. Please resubmit with i.e. details closeup of flowers, base of the main trunk, & side view of the whole plant (with out the direct sun light). For now I could only speculate that this might be a species of oak (Quercus). Check out the tanoak/tanbark-oak (Notholithocarpus densiflorus) & the sadler oak/deer oak (Quercus sadleriana). Click on the images to enlarge. Best wishes! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notholithocarpus
