Notes:
I found this flower in my garden, and I did not plant it. It has a stem and the leaves resemble that of an iris. The petals resemble orchids. It bloomed first in August and has re-bloomed. Blooms last less than 1 week.

You are right, Laura. I found one of these blackberry iris [what I call them] several years ago growing in a dirt floor of our chicken coop and when it went to seed [the part that looks like a blackberry] I took the seeds and started them indoors. Since then, they have gone wild and have volunteered all over our patios, garden fences, near boulders. They are beautiful dried as well. Everyone who sees our property wants some of the seeds or the plants.

Wish I could see the leaves to be certain. If “the leaves resemble that of an iris” check out blackberry lily (Iris domestica syn. Bellamcanda chinensis) and see if you have a match. Click on any images below to enlarge, best wishes! https://www.google.com/search?q=Iris+domestica&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjM-Mvvp8TOAhXIWSYKHR8qDccQiR4IiQE&biw=1525&bih=671&dpr=0.9

This is Toad Lily, also know as Tricyrtis. It likes sunny areas, and looks nice planted near pathways so you can see the intricate small blooms. Hope this helps!
