Plant was in a pot we trash picked. About 6 foot tall

    It does look like a magnolia too me too, but there are species in the fig genus (Ficus) with similar looking leaves. Check out strangler fig aka golden fig (Ficus aurea) and see if you have a match. Link below with photos and information for F. aurea.
