I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and these green plants keep showing up in my yard despite our terrible drought. I dug up about a 3 foot spread of them when they got to about two feet tall 6 weeks ago and…they’re back! A landscaper told me that they would grow to be just like the tree next to it and flower, but I want to confirm. Please let me know if you need any more information. Thanks so much.

Looks to me like mirabilis jalapa. 4 o’clock flower. They’re seedy, and if the winters aren’t too cold… Perennial. Makes them seem weedy to some people, but… The hummingbirds and hawk moths like them… So… Weedy or not, they always have a place in my garden.
