Notes:
This was growing out of a friends compost pile and he decided to plant it and see what happened. Well the leaves are huge – Some about 2 ft long and 6-8Ó wide. Has anyone ever seen this? Is this a weed?

There are few plants with dark color leaves like yours, i.e. the calico plant/purple joyweed plant (Alternathera brasiliana), however flowers & fruits are needed to help with the ID. I’m only speculating for now. Maybe you could give us an update as this grows more mature with photo of the whole plant. For now check out the purple joyweed links below.
