    Melissa Mattee, UGA Extension agent in Union County, says it looks to her like beard lichen because you can clearly see central “stalks” (which are not present in Spanish moss) all grouped together. It’s common in the Pacific Northwest because of their coniferous forests, but could easily grow here.
