Notes:
This plant has just started popping up under my hickory tree in early May. Has a shiny reddish tint to the leaves, reminding my of poison ivy. Though it is not poison ivy? Any idea what this plant is? Is it safe to touch? Makes me itchy just looking at it.

Harmless is relative. While it won’t harm you, it may invade and become the Virginia Creeper that ate Philadelphia, given the chance. 🙂

“Poison Ivy never has more than three leaflets to a group. Virginia Creeper can have 3 to 5 to 7.” https://thesquirrelnutwork.wordpress.com/tag/virginia-creeper/

Agree with virginia creeper… Mostly safe to touch, but don’t eat… Some people may experience a mild reaction from the sap: http://www.dailylocal.com/lifestyle/20140613/from-the-ground-up-maybe-that-rash-isnt-poison-ivy
