pilea in pot grandfathered in , Florida , may be a native , no one knows master gardeners no one ,it is doing well in pot semi sun shade under a plumeria but need to identify .the person who gave it to me identified it as tobacco but it is not..help

I can’t see the side view to be certain. I could only speculate here. Maybe the bellyache bush/black physicnut (Jatropha gossypiifolia). Check out the link below and see if you have a match.
