Notes:

This has taken over our yard. I made a mistake a couple of summers ago of pulling it up and leaving the pieces in our yard, so it spread. The root systems are interconnected, and spread every few inches in little green clumps. It doesn’t seem to work just to pull the clumps up though. It hasn’t climbed any trees either. It doesn’t look like English Ivy, so I’m trying to identify it and then find the best way to get rid of it. Thanks for your help?

They’re violets… They’re not going to hurt the trees… When I dig them out of the flower beds, I use a shovel… They come right back from dropped seeds, so I use a thick mulch. If I wasn’t trying to grow flowers or veggies in my yard… I’d relax and enjoy them. Euell Gibbons called them “Nature’s vitamin pill”, so maybe you could add them to the menu. http://livingmydreamlifeonthefarm.wordpress.com/2011/05/11/wild-violets-recipes/
