I inherited this plant from my grandmother. It has grown very tall with one thick main stem (that has bark-like qualities at the bottom) and lots of offshoots with 8-leafed bursts on each. The leaves are shiny but not waxy, a little pointed at the tips and the offshoots are alternate on the main stem. It is growing a little out of control and I want to clip and re-plant into other containers, but I feel like I should know what it is first.

Please help me!! My japanese maple has what looks like scorched leaves, half green and the other part of the leaf dry and brown. I also have another jap.-maple – ends of the leaves get all dried at the points. What is wrong with them and what should I spray them with. i have sprayed the one for what I thought might be spider mites as it gets little webs on it. But they return after a few days.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide, Virginia

That’s a Schefflera. I think cutting back and replanting would be fine if it is growing well where it is.
