This plant has either volunteered in my garden or come up from something planted long ago. The foliage at the base resembles columbine. Anyone know what it is? Thanks.

We’ve about decided that this is a purple columbine. This blossom had been chewed on pretty thoroughly, and the others opening look much more like a columbine.
