Seen on one of Pittsburgh’s bike trails, along the river. Are they edible?
What are these berries?

Mulberry. Yes, they are edible, but not very tasty.

These appear to be black mulberries. I think they have a pleasant taste, and they make great jam and jelly – also wine. The problem is gathering them; the trees can get quite large, and often when the fruit falls to the ground, it “squshes”.

Thanks folks – as a result of the responses, I found http://eatinglocalinpittsburgh.blogspot.com/2008/07/mulberries.html, which clinches it, I think. Thanks again.
