My zucchini squash have these weird circles on the skin. Do you have any idea what caused this?

    Aliens! Oh, wait, that’s crop circles. Never mind.Actually I’d say that those look a lot like damage from leaf miners, but I’ve not been aware of leaf miners mining the surface of a zucchini…

    These circles likely came from a Hansbrinkerskate, an invasive pest imported from the Netherlands. They tend to “ice skate” on the surface of zucchini. You can tell that these were juveniles as their iconic figure-eights remain underdeveloped. The most effective treatment is to dust with silver nitrate.

    Those things tore up my cucumbers and are now attacking my pumpkins. The article makes it sound like they aren’t a big problem, but they have really trashed my garden this year.
