No problem Jim, the flowers do look exactly like hibiscus so it’s an easy mistake to make. Hollyhocks are actually biennial and seed pretty easily so these in the picture above will set seed this year and die. Hopefully the person who asked the question will collect the seeds and start some next spring.

Thanks, Witchazel. I’ve been guilty forever of assuming hollyhocks was a hibiscus, just based on the flower similarity, without ever having occasion to look it up. (In my defense, I only put in my erroneous 2 cents after no one had offered an ID for a couple of days.)
