Notes:
I spotted this growing on a common plant in Aliso Viejo, Calif. ÊGenerally, the plant displays purple spiked florets. ÊThis growth looks mossy, is deep green, and appears to be one line of growth which curls in opposite directions at each end. ÊInside each curl there looks to be more blooms forming.

Maybe a crested Echium. I’m guessing only, this might be Echium candicans (pride of Madeira). The abnormal growth is also called ‘fasciation’. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasciation https://www.google.com/search?q=crested+echium+candican&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjin5_8kbfLAhUHMSYKHVuVARcQ7AkIKQ&biw=1545&bih=909

Can’t get logged in right now, seems to be a problem with the database…but the looks like some kind of crested Euphorbia to me. Very nice!
