Notes:
There are deep scratches in the bark of my very young pink dogwood tree. the scratches are on all sides of the lowest part of the trunk and the small limbs around the scratches look dead. the rest of the tree looks fine with lovely leaves and pink blossoms. Should I be worried? Do I need to treat the tree with something?

Walter Reeves Master Identifier says:
dunno what caused the scratches but I’d just remove the dead twigs and wait to see if anything else develops
