Notes:

I have a jap maple my mom rooted so it is very special to me I have it planted in a pot and it has been doing wonderful for 10 years. this year the left branch is dead the right isn’t looking good. Pikes said it was cold damage not sure that is it. at the trunk there is this moldy spoor developing

    Sorry about your tree. Common diseases affecting Japanese maple are Anthracnose, Boytritis, Fusarium, and Verticillium.It is best to contact your county Agricultural Extension for what’s ailing your tree, and treatments. http://www.caes.uga.edu/extension/forsyth/contact.html On the side note, from what I have learned. The roots of maples in pots are vulnerable to frost over winter, so wrap pots with a sheet of bubble wrap, secure with rope or twine. Best luck to you pamhughes565.
