Notes:
It’s a large bush in the garden of our newly rented house, and it needs a good pruning (because it’s getting a bit big). I have no idea what it is though. Evergreen leaves, with stems which have ridges along them. The older stems are woody and the leaves are between 5mm and 30mm wide. The bush is against a small wall and about 2m high and 2m wide

Looks like a type of Ceanothus. Sorry, I do not know the exact species or cultivar of your plant. This genus has 50 or more species with numerous of cultivars, deciduous and evergreens included.
