Notes:

I thought that this is a spider lilly but it does not look like any of the lilies that I have seen books. What is it and when is a good time to separate.

    Looks like the Cahaba Lily or Hymenocallis coronaria http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hymenocallis_coronaria Usually found in wet areas. I’d expect the best time to divide would be during the winter as with most other lilies.
