Blooming now (2/25/16); spreads from sports; unruly; pretty blooms; provided cover for birds, but not food; likes my 7b yard, is protected by the garage; deciduous; hasn’t bloomed very well for years, so I need to know what it is so I can help it out

Looks like a variety of Flowering Quince https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaenomeles Occasionally you’ll get an apple like fruit on these but little else in the way of fruit.
