Notes:
These trees with a brown bark and bright crimson flowers were growing around a marina in Santa Barbara, CA. Are they naked coral trees? Please help with their identification. Thanks

laura735 From my research I knew it was from the Erythrina genus but I couldn’t come up with a specific one. Thank you for digging into it. I believe you have a winner with erythrina-americana. Thank you so much for your help—you are the best!!!

Hi Dab, according to sources, some of the species in the Erythrina genus is sharing the same common name ‘naked coral tree’. The tree in the photos do look like a species of Erythrina, however I can’t be certain of which one this is. Check out E. coralloides and see if you have a match. Best wishes! Check out the included link, scroll down to the Coral tree section. Click on images to enlarge. Best wishes! http://www.pacifichorticulture.org/articles/trees-of-santa-barbara/
