Notes:

This plant came up this spring and is 30″ high and wide. It has scalloped leaves and the stem is neither round nor square. It feels more like it is sectioned. I have no idea what it is and if I planted it last fall. It has not bloomed yet. Please somebody help!!

My mystery plant is now starting to flower. I have a picture I was hoping to post, but don’t see a way to add it to this string. Hoping the person who identified the plant as a Zizia can contact me for the picture.

I am very sad to report that in spite of several Butterfly weed, a couple of Parsley plants and probably at lease a hundred blooms right now in my gardwn I have only seen one or two little white butterflies. I think it is because of people using insecticide. I do get a lot of bees though.

Zizia is a black swallowtail host plant… I want butterflies in my garden… so… I’ve made a bit of a study of which plants they raise their young on. I found zizia growing wild in town last year (or maybe the year before), and brought out a couple specimens to my garden… hasn’t increased yet…

Thank you. I have never heard of this plant. It still has not flowered, just keeps putting out smaller clusters of leaves as it grows. I wish I could send you a picture of the whole plant but it is packed in among other plants. I just looked and in the top growth it looks like the possibility that there is a bud forming rather than more new leaves. I will know when it blooms if it looks like the pictures of the plant I pulled up. The leaves definitely look the same. How did you know what it was?
