Notes:
Shrub is ~ 7 ft high. Bark medium brown w/ many pale spots. Note long stamens in flowers which are white with 5 petals. Maybe those petals remain as a red ‘star’ framing a large green seed packet, which turns black later (see my 2017 photo). Web search uncovered only one image in an Australian site, which did not identify the plant. Shrub is sending roots into our yard, generating one sucker. We’ve potted it, but may not plant it in the garden unless convinced it’s not invasive.

Thanks, Walter. We’ll keep it a while, but in its own pot. It’s passing strange how many of these we’ve fond on the Web since we learned the name. Before that, nada. I should add a plug for scientific names. Common names are fine, but they don’t travel well, e.g., “Bird of Paradise” in FL vs the same name in NM.
