Notes:
I have quite a few of these plants in the wooded area of my yard – mostly right under trees and in damp/wet areas – close to the creek. They are about 10 inches high. I never noticed them in my yard in past years. My guess is that they have a short blooming season. We had a very cold snowy winter that continued well into spring. Most plants are blooming later than usual this year, so this plant might usually bloom earlier than May.

Looks like red trillium also known as stinking Benjamin because flowers smell bad. The growing area and conditions fit too.
