How to Identify dawn redwood and bald cypress.

Too bad we don’t have a photo of “a small shrub”. Seedling at this young stage is difficult to tell. For now I could only speculate with its lacy appearance and single trunk, possible either dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) or bald cypress (Taxodium distichum)? I can’t see its needles position clear enough to call. to my eyes they appear to be alternate (?), I’m leaning toward bald cypress. Check out these included links for more information for both genus.
