Notes:
Found this plant in a pot in a friend’s house and I would like to identify it… It may be some sort of small tree. Found in the city of La Serena in the north of Chile, South America, where the weather is humid but rather cold. Please help!

Thanks Laura! I looked the Aralia Fabian on the web and it seems that’s it, the leaves are green with red nerves and edges as described. The difference between the images on the Internet and my picture might be due to the low quantity of leaves, resulting from the small pot! I will suggest my friend to change it. Thanks again!

Maybe a type of plant in the Polyscias genus. I’m guessing this could be Polyscias scutellaria, common names include Fabian aralia, red aralia, shield aralia, etc… Check it out and see if you have a match. On the side note, the plant should be re pot to a bigger container. The current one is too small & likely not providing enough nutrient to the plant of that size. Best wishes! http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Araliaceae/Aralia_Fabian.html
