Notes:
Appeared in my lawn at the end of January. Didn’t seem affected by snow. Our yard is surrounded by old-growth woodland which has a creek running through it.

Metrosideros Master Identifier says:
Looks like Trillium reliquum, Relict Trillium, a rare and endangered species of Georgia and South Carolina. Great to find it in your yard! http://www.goldendelighthoney.com/tes/TRRE6/trre_text.html http://warnell.forestry.uga.edu/SERVICE/LIBRARY/index.php3?docID=81&docHistory%5B%5D=5&docHistory%5B%5D=202&docHistory%5B%5D=359 http://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/rareplants/profiles/tep/trillium_reliquum/ http://www.centerforplantconservation.org/collection/cpc_viewprofile.asp?CPCNum=4341
