This plant has invaded a flower patch. It hasn’t given any nice flowers yet! Can you identify it? Is it legitimate groundcover or just a weed? It is now about 3 feet high, a dense patch of 25 sq.yds

This might be a goldenrod species in the (Solidago) genus. Goldenrod is considered very beneficial for other wildlife. Its nectar and pollen are for flies, bees, butterflies. various insects, and caterpillars eat the plants.
