Found this on my driveway under a Hickory tree. It is about 1.5 inches in diameter. It looked kind of like a bloodshot eyeball. Cut it open it is firm with a red juice and small seed in the middle. Have never seen this before and have lived here over 20 years. Baffled

This must have been a good year for these red and golden balls. I had never seen anything like this before in my 60 years, before this year and yours is the third found in a totally separate area. I, too, thought that it had seeds inside but on closer inspection found they were small worms or grubs or larva about a (fourth the size of a hickory nut worm). Those that I found were all under oak trees. A gall I surmised . Would make a nice decoration on the Christmas tree!
