It usually puts out one leaf in early March and then blooms late March. The leaf changes shape so much it becomes hard to find as summer gets near. It grows on the south facing hillside of a stream that runs across my property. They do not appear to grow in clusters. I have only seen them grow near each other in two or three spots. It is a hardwood hillside and the plants grow from the top of the creek bank to about 40 or 50 feet in elevation above that. Also, it is fairly rocky soil. Thanks
